KBR Case Study: Daniel Thwaites

At Daniel Thwaites, sustainability isn’t just a goal—it’s becoming part of the operation. To push the envelope on energy efficiency, a trial involving advanced energy-saving solutions was conducted at the Crown Inn and Toll House, two historic sites celebrated for their hospitality. From cellar management to fridge optimisation, every measure was carefully implemented, monitored, and refined to make a measurable difference in power consumption without compromising quality.

Cellar Manager Optimisation

With the installation of the Cellar Manager on the cooling systems, the average daily power usage was reduced from 54.15 kWh to just 33.80 kWh. This impressive 37.5% reduction demonstrates the effectiveness of the Cellar Manager in significantly easing energy consumption while maintaining ideal cellar conditions.

Smart Post Mix Timer

Targeting optimisation of the Post Mix Cooler, the Smart Post Mix Timer was installed and proved highly effective, reducing daily power usage from 8.41 kWh to 6.25 kWh—cutting consumption by 25.7%. This adjustment not only enhances operational efficiency but also supports the goal of energy sustainability in hospitality

Fridge Manager for Bottle Fridges

Maintaining drinks at the perfect temperature is essential, and with the Fridge Manager in place, the energy required for bottle fridges was reduced by 29.1%, with daily usage dropping from 3.23 kWh to 2.29 kWh. This measure alone represents a notable advancement in energy-efficient cooling.

Walk-in Fridge and Freezer Enhancements

Additional upgrades, including insulation and thermocovers for the Walk-in Fridge and Freezer, led to further significant savings. The Walk-in Fridge’s usage dropped from 27.75 kWh to 21.76 kWh—a 21.6% decrease, while the Walk-in Freezer also saw an 18.5% reduction, highlighting the cumulative impact of layering these energy-saving solutions.

” We’re very impressed with the results and service provided by Powerhub’s KBR Energy Saver. Through their energy-saving solutions, we achieved a yearly saving of 7,426 kWh—a 37.6% reduction acrossthe targeted appliances at our sites. This shows just how much energyefficiency can make a difference in a sector known for high power use. We recommend Powerhub for their expertise and support! ”
